boycott target
DC Coalition
about us.
The Target Boycott DC Coalition is a coalition of clergy, labor unions, and community organizations based in Washington, DC. It was founded by the late Rev. Graylan S. Hagler, Rev. Patricia Fears, Rev. Dr. Lewis Tait, Jr., and Rev. Dr. Wanda Thompson of Faith Strategies, LLC and was formally launched as the Target Target Campaign on March 29, 2025 as an informational picket and speak out in front of the Target store in the Columbia Heights neighborhood in Northwest DC.
The coalition picketed, danced, and educated shoppers outside the DC USA building (where Target is housed) for nearly one year to support the nationwide boycott of Target for rolling back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in appeasement to the Trump administration’s racist policies.
Target had pledged bold DEI initiatives in the wake of the 2020 police murder of George Floyd, which took place a few blocks from its headquarters in Minneapolis, MN, and quickly folded when Trump returned to office in 2025. In late 2025, the Trump administration launched “Operation Metro Surge” in Minnesota, which led to thousands of immigration enforcement agents occupying the Twin Cities. ICE and CBP agents used parking lots outside of Target stores to stage their operations and also entered stores and detained Latino workers. Our coalition stands in solidarity with immigrants who have been victims of ICE and CBP terror. Over 20,000 residents of the DC metro region have been arrested by ICE since Trump’s second term.
